Black & Blue & Grey

sweater: men's section at Daffy's ($16) ~ skirt: Necessary Objects via Century 21 ($25) ~ boots: Chinese Laundry via Macy's ($65) ~ necklaces: gifts

Date: January 31, 2011
Ensemble message: It's Monday and I'm super busy at work... so I went with an outfit that I would be comfortable in but also look nice for when I met with others.  If you haven't noticed, comfort has been key lately because a) Q1 is the busiest time for HR at The Day Job, and b) It snows on average once a week around here!

Knowing that another storm was heading our way, I took advantage of the sun this morning to get some outdoor shots.  As cold as it is, they just look so much nicer than my living room.  Plus, my living room is covering in ski equipment right now in anticipation of an upcoming trip!

What did you wear to work today?

Purple Polka Dots

Giveaway Update: If you are having trouble commenting, please send me an e-mail and let me know how you are following Employed Panache.  I don't want anyone missing out on the goodies!!

shirt: Gap (gift) ~ skirt: Kensi via Macy's (free with gift card) ~ cardigan: Target ($15) ~ belt: Target ($17) ~ shoes: Marc Fischer via Macy's ($36)

Date: November 23, 2010
Ensemble message: I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago but never got to post it.  I believe it was still fairly warm out (compared to the 20's now in the morning), and I remember really, really loving this outfit!  If we get an odd day with highs in the 40's I will probably wear it again.

That day, I had a ton of meetings to go to.  The actual clothing items were professional (skirt, blouse, cardi) but the colors were so much fun.  My sister gave me this blouse for Christmas a couple years ago, and I found it difficult to wear with my wardrobe at the time.  But I saw the potential and held onto it... and thank goodness too, because now I love it!  I also wore it here and look forward to re-mixing it again.

Wool Sweater & Summer Dress

sweater: JCrew (gift) ~ skirt: actually a dress, thrifted from Beacon's Closet ($14) ~ boots: Bandolino via Macy's ($85ish) ~ necklace: F21 ($5)

Date: December 2, 2010
Ensemble message: You guys.  It was a long, long day.  I watched 36 co-ops present their final projects, and also provided feedback to each.  Don't get me wrong, I love love love interacting with the co-ops, but I wish we could break this day into 2!  So, please forgive me for making this short and kinda babbling.

By the way, not sure what a co-op is?  It's an intern, but for 6 months.  These students take a full semester off to come work for the Day Job and get experience.  Yeah, we pay them too, which is a nice perk ;)  It was really nice to see each of them dressed exactly as I would expect: either in a suit or very nice professional clothes.  Clearly the business etiquette course they took at the start of the co-op really left an impression (thanks Jonna! :)

Do any of you have interns or co-ops at your job?  If you do, I really encourage you to interact with them... even if you have little experience, you could still be a great mentor to them!

Sheer Shirt Remix

"Even when my luck is down
I take joy in knowing that our love grows"
~Yeasayer "Madder Red"

Date: October 28, 2010
Ensemble message: Last Thursday, I decided to wear this grey dress, which is made out of a sweatshirt type material.  The frock is from Fossil, and it was a specific Christmas request made to Mama Claus.  I was psyched to open it on Christmas morning, but soon became frustrated that it didn't mix real well with my wardrobe.

dress: Fossil (gift) ~ shirt: American Rag via Macy's ($25) ~ boots: Bandolino (ancient... ~$85) ~ necklace/earrings: gift

Until last week, the only way I've worn the dress is as is with a statement necklace or scarf or with a long sleeve tee underneath.  I always figured that a layer OVER the dress wouldn't work because of the thicker material.  It's hard to tell, but the dress holds it's shape vs. "falling" on my body.  But Thursday I decided to go out on a limb, totally expecting to be a little disappointed with the results.  However, I love this outfit!!!  The looser shirt is a good match for the stiffer material, and the brown boots break up the darker grey/black.

What do you think?  How else would you remix this dress??

Easy Camel & Grey

sweater: Express (gift) ~ wool pants: Banana Republic (somewhere in the ballpark of $60-$80... wool pants are always so pricey that most of the time I blindly hand over my credit card so I don't wuss out) ~ shoes: Nine West ($? ancient) ~ necklace: Macy's ($10) ~ cuff: gift

Date: October 18, 2010
Ensemble message:  Another Monday, another struggle to get out of bed!  Last night I toyed with the idea of wearing a skirt, but then I realized that I had 4 hours of meetings.  In a row.  And since conference rooms are generally cold, pants and a sweater were the way to go.

But I wanted to keep the look more modern, so I chose camel pants and a grey dolman sweater.  The trendy neutral combo this season!  I think the best part of this trend is that most people probably already have both grey and camel items in their closet!

I had a ton of fun taking the action shots, even though my fingers were numb from the cold by the end.  I would have taken some more, but then I noticed a creeper watching me.  I going to ignore him, except I was downwind of El Creepo and his cigarette, which I’m pretty sure was a “funny” cigarette!!!  Drugs + creepers = get the heck out of Dodge!  Photo shoot was over immediately… I hope he doesn’t become a regular in the morning :(

Oh by the way… my titles will no longer be lyrics from the songs in my head.  As an experiment of sorts, I will be using key words to see if my readership increases.  Hopefully that’s not too boring for ya :)
