Pinspired: Faux Collar

t-shirt: Target ($8) ~ blazer: Zara (old - $35ish) ~ collar-actually a scarf: Express (gift) ~ silk scarf: vintage (my mom's!) ~ pants: Calvin Klein via Filene's Basement ($24) ~ shoes: Mia via DSW ($60)

Date: January 17, 2012
Ensemble message: While I love getting inspiration from my fellow style bloggers, Pinterest has jumped the ranks and is now one of my go-to places for style ideas.  And DIY ideas... and home decor, recipes, etc etc etc.  When I saw this pin, I was instantly drawn to the fur collar and silk scarf.  I personally would not have pair them together - in my head this is too much.  But they actually balance out well, and this has been one of my favorite outfits from the past month!

My collar is a fake one - both the fur and the fact that it didn't come with this blazer.  I carefully pinned the edges to hold it in place.  What do you think - would you wear a fur collar and scarf together??

Equestrian

t-shirt: Ann Taylor Loft (old - $25ish?) ~ cardigan: August Silk via Nordstrom Rack ($20) ~ jeans & scarf: Target ($14 & forget) ~ boots: Steve Madden via DSW ($120)

Date: October 6, 2011
Ensemble message: This is an outfit from one of my many team meetings in the past several weeks.  These meetings are generally casual, but I will wear a skirt or dressier slacks if I'm presenting.  Clearly I wasn't presenting this day, so I opted for jeans for comfort and layers for warmth (aren't hotel conference rooms always so cold?!)  Between the boots and scarf, I felt very equestrian!

No Regrets

P1010900

P1010902
dress & shirt: Target ($28 & $14) ~ scarf: Gap Outlet ($?? I forget, sorry!) ~ boots: Steve Madden via DSW ($120) ~ bangle: NY&Co ($10ish) ~ cuff: gift

Date: October 5, 2011
Ensemble message: So yeah, absolutely no regrets buying this dress.  I. LOVE. IT.  I wear it to work (and it's hard to not wear it every week) and I wear it on the weekend.  It's awesome alone with a few accessories, or layered with undershirts, overshirts, scarves, etc.  I really have no other words to describe my love :)

Moving Day

P1010801

P1010807

P1010799
sweater: Banana Republic ($13) ~ leggings: Target ($20... but thick, really worth the money!) ~ scarf: H&M (old... $8ish?) ~ boots: Bandolino via Macy's ($85) ~ bracelet: gift
Date: February 21, 2011
Ensemble message: Today definitely did not start off on a good note.  First, it's Presidents' Day, but The Day Job does acknowledge this as a company holiday (boooo).  Second, it snowed AGAIN!  But the news actually didn't hype up the bad roads when they should have... so instead of working from home, I drove in and my 4 wheel drive car was all over the road.  Third, this was my first day at my new desk, so I knew I would be unpacking boxes.

Well, things didn't go quite as planned, and my boxes never showed up!  Not a good start to the week, but then again, things can only go up from here right?? :)

Snowy Friday

shirt: Gap ($20ish) ~ jeans: Target ($14) ~ cardigan: Gap (gift) ~ scarf: Ralph Lauren (gift) ~ belt: from another pair of pants ~ boots: Sorel (gift)

Date: January 21, 2011
Ensemble message: Well, with only 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground and none falling from the sky at 7am, I had to go into work!  To keep warm while cleaning off the car, my Sorels were a must.  I did bring other shoes in for the office, however, to look more professional and because the boots are about 1/2 a size too big ;)  The rest is just comfy and cozy, but nice enough to meet up with friends for happy hour after work.

Hope you enjoy the non-outfit pics... it was just to pretty this morning NOT to post them!  Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend everyone! :)

Casual Holiday Party

blazer: BCBG via Macy's ($55) ~ t-shirt & scarf: H&M ($8 each) ~ jeans: Target ($14) ~ shoes: Sam Edelman via Nordstrom Rack ($100)

Date: December 10, 2010
Ensemble message:  Last Friday, the HR department had their annual holiday party.  We had an afternoon get-together at a local pub, which was pretty much schmoozing, eating fried appetizers, and having the Day Job buy me a couple rounds.  Very laid back, so I felt no pressure to dress up.

I did want to be somewhat festive, so I donned my black blazer and a sparkly scarf.  Just enough to show everyone that I do care about the holidays, but not overboard with holiday sweaters.  Indeed there were several folks with full-on festive sweaters... I can't say that any fell in the "ugly Christmas sweater" category, but it was definitely a bit over the top for me.  Either way, it was nice that everyone showed their holiday spirit and escaped the office a few hours early, despite it being a busy time of year for us.

How did your office celebrate the holidays this year?!?

Do Over with a Scarf

shirt: Banana Republic (gift) ~ skirt: Gap Outlet ($19) ~ scarf: vintage, my mom's! ~ shoes: ?? via Macy's (?? - circa 2004) ~ earrings: gift (same from Monday)

Date: November 30, 2010
Ensemble message: This outfit is redemption for Monday's, which just felt off to me.  If I could go back and do it again, I would have put this on.  Simple lines but classic with a pencil skirt and scarf.  I normally don't wear my scarves tied like this, and I felt like my grandmother all day.  Which... I really liked!  In fact, by the end of the day, I decided to make it a point to wear more scarves in this old-fashioned way.

Speaking of my darling Grandma (father's side, I sadly never knew my mother's mother), she is such a classy lady.  She loves to tell me stories about working in New York City and taking the Hudson Tubes (now called the PATH).  Grandma apparently loved wearing the highest of high heels too :)  If I can find any pictures of her during her working girl days, I will post them here!

Is there anyone in your family whose style you admire?
